  • Overview


    The Cash Accounting Manager will lead and manage FirstKey Homes cash reconciliations team. This role will ensure cash reconciliation transactions and reports are completed in accordance to company standards. They will advise associates about accounting policies while also supporting finance departments with projects as assigned by the Property Controller.


    • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the entity and general ledger structure.
    • Ensure accurate and timely reporting for monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes.
    • Supervise the cash reconciliations team to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
    • Monitor and analyze departmental work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
    • Monitor the reconciliation of the cash account to ensure that all activities are being recorded to the general ledger. Research, investigate and resolve discrepancies.
    • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
    • Respond to inquiries from the Property Controller, other finance and firm-wide managers, regarding financial results, special reporting requests and similar matters.
    • Provide support to the Property Controller in ensuring a clean and timely year-end audit.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
    • Guide departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy. Apply observations and recommendations to FirstKey Homes operations.
    • Support the Property Controller in managing special projects and workflow process improvements.
    • Assist with routine accounting activities such as preparing and adjusting journal entries.
    • Manage team performance to proactively address staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
    • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
    • Train, develop and manage new and existing staff to achieve departmental and FirstKey Homes goals. Supporting budget and forecasting activities as requested by Financial Planning and Analysis function.
    • Collaborate with other finance managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
    • Stay current on accounting practices and trends. Identify and recommend practices that would enhance Accounting practices at FirstKey homes.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent work experience and/or education
    • Minimum 6 years of overall accounting experience including financial analytics and presentations
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory role
    • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), must be comfortable using VLookups and Pivot Tables


    • Prefer Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or on track to obtain license
    • Experience using Yardi or similar property management program
    • Experience working in property management, real estate or similar industry
    • Experience working in a fast pace, high-growth company
