Overview

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Accounting Manager will work under the supervision of the Controller and will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and preparing the financial information to support monthly reporting deadlines.  The Accounting Manager is also responsible for maintaining a good relationship between the satellite markets and the corporate office through open and continuous communication.    

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes.
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Respond to inquiries from the Controller, and other finance and firm-wide managers, regarding financial results, special reporting requests and similar matters.
  • Provide support to Controller in ensuring a clean and timely year-end audit.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Support Controller in managing special projects and workflow process improvements.
  • Assist with routine accounting activities such as preparing and adjusting journal entries.
  • Manage team to proactively address staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
  • Support budget and forecasting activities as requested by FP&A function.
  • Collaborate with other finance managers to support overall department goals and objectives.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or CPA track preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of overall accounting experience including financial analytics and presentation with at least 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel; must be comfortable using VLookups and Pivot Tables
  • Yardi and/or Salesforce experience a plus
  • Ability to adeptly handle changing priorities
  • Proficient organizational skills with the ability to multi-task effectively
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled, open-plan office work environment
  • Sedentary, sitting, walking, occasional lifting from floor not to exceed 20 lbs.
  • Frequent near vision use for reading and computer usage.
  • Deadline driven role that can potentially be stressful at times (cardiovascular)
